The Center for Service in Action has supported faculty members in developing service-learning courses that involve Cal Poly students who provide direct service to local non-profit agencies. These courses allow students to engage in service, typically 12-14 hours per quarter, enhancing their knowledge base and increasing the effectiveness of the course. Staff and graduate students facilitate class reflections and coordinate placements in local agencies.

Service Learning - Student Success Fee Initiative
The Service Learning initiative supported by the student success fee has been approved to support expansion of Service Learning to focus on addressing the WASC recommendation related to diversity. The approach will be to increase the number of Service Learning courses, review current service learning courses for alignment with the Diversity Learning Objectives (DLOs), and gather evidence to document the linkage between Service Learning and the DLOs.
