Greek Honor Societies and Other Organizations

Aware Awake Alive

In the fall of 2008 a freshmen and Fraternity new member named Carson Starkey passed away due to alcohol poisoning. Since Carson's death, Cal Poly has taken major steps to educate our students about alcohol abuse and hazing in an effort to prevent a tragedy like this from ever happening again. Aware Awake Alive is an organization, founded by Carson Starkey’s family, whose mission is to educate people on the dangers of alcohol poisoning, create awareness, and establish partnerships across the country.

Fraternal Values Society

On most campuses there are members of fraternities and sororities who WANT to forward the values conversation within their community, but don't know where or how to begin. The Fraternal Values Society exists to provide a home for that conversation, to provide voice to the values movement, and to create a sustainable network within each fraternal community for those who want their fraternal experience to be representative of the founding fraternal/ethical values of our organizations.

National Hazing Prevention Week

National Hazing Prevention week is an opportunity for campuses, schools, communities, organizations, and individuals to promote the prevention of hazing. It is observed during the last week of September each year or whenever it is most convenient in your calendar. For each group or person, the experience is their own, but the important thing is that we are doing something to prevent hazing!

Rho Lambda

The Greek letters RHO LAMBDA stand for PANHELLENIC LEADERSHIP, respectively. Those who are leaders light a torch in the darkness for others to follow, and the flame is the symbol of Rho Lambda. Although membership was originally intended for women whose organizations belonged to campus Panhellenics, any sorority woman is now eligible for membership as long as she meets the membership selection criteria.
