PolyCultural Weekend is designed to acquaint prospective students to the Cal Poly University by exploring academic, cultural, and social resources of the institution. PolyCultural Weekend aims to establish a sense of community, a sense of belonging, and provides students with the skills to succeed at Cal Poly, even though it is a different environment.
What is PolyCultural Weekend?
PolyCultural Weekend is a weekend where cultural organizations come together to host high school seniors and transfer students who have been conditionally accepted to Cal Poly. During this time, the prospective students get a feel for campus life, the cultural community, and academic resources. We hope that this weekend will help you to see if Cal Poly is the right school for you.
When is PolyCultural Weekend?
PolyCultural Weekend will be April 21-23, 2017. Check in is 7-9 p.m on Friday night (April 21). You will receive an email about registration in March. Please do not attempt to attend without a registration/confirmation. The event spans from Friday night (April 21) to Sunday afternoon (April 23).
How to Register?
Only newly admitted Cal Poly students were emailed the invitation with the registration form to the ‘email delivery address’ as it appears on the 'Personal Info' Tab on MyCalPoly. Responding to that email and using that registration form is the only way to register for this event.
If you need the email to be resent to you, please send a quick note to email@example.com requesting the PCW invitation again.
Why is there a fee?
This fee includes dinner on Friday, breakfast and dinner on Saturday, and Sunday brunch. It also includes a commemorative t-shirt. Please bring extra cash for lunch on Saturday and other activities in which you may want to participate while in San Luis Obispo.
If you are in need of financial assistance, email the coordinators to explain your need and to receive a separate registration link.
Are there refunds?
Unfortunately, we cannot issue refunds for PolyCultural Weekend. The logistics of setting up and planning the event makes it impractical. Make sure you are good to go before signing up.
Where will I stay?
As part of the full Cal Poly college experience, you will be paired up with a current student in a cultural organization with similar interests such as ethnicity or major. Minors will stay on campus and experience residential life with their host. Transfer students may be housed off campus.
What are my parents going to be doing during PolyCultural Weekend?
Upon dropping of their student at check-in Friday night, a Parent Panel and First Generation Student Workshop will be held to welcome parents and guardians. Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to ask questions to a panel of faculty, staff, and students involved with various resources on campus. In addition, everyone is welcome to join in on Sunday's lunch after RSVP'ing during registration.
More information will be available for parents upon check-in. In between, parents are encouraged to explore the lovely San Luis Obispo town and familiarize themselves with the Cal Poly campus.
We hope you'll use this site to learn more about PolyCultural Weekend and register in March 2017 to experience Cal Poly with us and choose our university.
If you have general questions, email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you and we hope to see you soon!
