Students with Dependents (SWD) - Population Data Fall 2024

 

There are 170 STUDENTS WITH DEPENDENTS at Cal Poly during the 2024-25 academic school year. Students in self-supported programs are not included in this count. 

 

Students with dependents are in ALL SIX COLLEGES AT CAL POLY 

  • 41 SWD in the College of Liberal Arts
  • 34 SWD in the College of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences
  • 30 SWD in the College of Engineering
  • 30 SWD in the Bailey College of Science & Mathematics
  • 21 SWD in the Orfaela College of Business
  • 14 SWD in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design

 

81.2% of SWD are UNDERGRADUATE students

18.8% of SWD are GRADUATE OR POST-BACC students

 

57.1% of SWD identify as WOMEN

42.9% identify as MEN

 

6 OUT OF EVERY 10 UNDERGRADUATE SWD transferred from a community college before attending Cal Poly.

 

Over half (51%) of SWD identify as Latine/x and 29% of of them identify as White. The remaining 20% of SWD identify as racial/ethnic identities with number counts too small to share individually. Groups include, African American, Asian Pacific Islander Desi American, Native American/Indigenous, and Multiracial. 

 

47% of SWD are PELL ELIGIBLE

more than double the non-SWD population of 21%

 

42% of SWD are FIRST GENERATION college students, 

more than double the non-SWD population of 16% 

 

The AVERAGE AGE of SWD is 28, eight years higher than that of non-SWD. 

On average, SWD take 13.7 units per quarter (full-time), and is one unit lower than non-SWD. 

 

Currently we have data for Academic Year 2024-25, which is shown above. Data reflects fall state-support enrollment counts and represents estimates based on available reporting at the time of collection. Each year, we plan to update this data and archive previous years with access on our web page.
