Living the Mustang Way

Living the Mustang Way

The Mustang Way reflects the values that shape the Cal Poly experience. It is a shared commitment to how Mustangs support one another, contribute to their community and approach challenges with integrity and purpose.

Built from the student experience and shaped by today’s campus culture, the Mustang Way connects students across majors, organizations and traditions from admission through graduation.

The Mustang Way in Action

The Mustang Way comes to life through four core commitments:

  • We strive for excellence
  • We support one another
  • We value community
  • We lead with integrity

What It Looks Like

The Mustang Way shows up in everyday moments across campus, in how students challenge themselves, support others and contribute to the community around them.

Striving for excellence means doing your best work in the classroom and beyond, not just for grades, but because high standards make the whole community stronger.

Supporting one another Supporting one another means showing up for your peers, offering help when someone needs it and accepting it when you do.

Valuing community means taking your role seriously — on campus, in San Luis Obispo and beyond — and giving back to the places that shape you.

Leading with integrity Leading with integrity means being honest, accountable and consistent in your values, and making decisions you can stand behind.

Start With You

Living the Mustang Way is an ongoing practice. It begins with individual choices and extends to collective impact.

Each Mustang contributes to the culture we share.
