Students with Dependents (SWD) - Population Data Fall 2025
There are 140 STUDENTS WITH DEPENDENTS at Cal Poly during the 2024-25 academic school year. Students in self-supported programs are not included in this count.
Students with dependents are in ALL SIX COLLEGES AT CAL POLY
- 51 SWD in the College of Liberal Arts
- 17 SWD in the College of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences
- 26 SWD in the College of Engineering
- 24 SWD in the Bailey College of Science & Mathematics
- 14 SWD in the Orfaela College of Business
- 8 SWD in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design
73.6% of SWD are UNDERGRADUATE students
26.4% of SWD are GRADUATE OR POST-BACC students
58% of SWD identify as WOMEN
42% identify as MEN
7 OUT OF EVERY 10 UNDERGRADUATE SWD transferred from a community college before attending Cal Poly.
Over half (63%) of SWD identify as Latine/x and 23% of of them identify as White. The remaining 14% of SWD identify as racial/ethnic identities with number counts too small to share individually. Groups include, African American, Asian Pacific Islander Desi American, Native American/Indigenous, and Multiracial.
52% of SWD are PELL ELIGIBLE,
more than double the non-SWD population of 21%
54% of SWD are FIRST GENERATION college students,
more than double the non-SWD population of 16%
The AVERAGE AGE of SWD is 32, eight years higher than that of non-SWD.
On average, SWD take 13.4 units per quarter (full-time), and is one and a half units lower than non-SWD.
